Stay dressed for action and keep your lamps burning, and be like men who are waiting for their master to come home from the wedding feast, so that they may open the door to him at once when he comes and knocks. Blessed are those servants whom the master finds awake when he comes. Truly

(Luke 12:35–37).

It is Jesus who told us to maintain a state of readiness for His return. He tells us to be awake and not asleep spiritually. It is not about having your eyes open, it is having your heart and your mind open to Him as you wait on His return.

Here is the question: If Jesus returned today would you be ready to face the Lord? Have you made your faith personal by placing your trust in Him? Is your heart filled with worship and adoration for Him? Are you sharing the gospel with those around you? Have you told your friends and neighbors about Jesus? Have you forgiven those who have hurt, offended, or wronged you?

In theology, we talk about the imminent return of Christ. What that means is Jesus could come back at any moment. Jesus says we will be taken by surprise. The only way to avoid being caught by surprise is to maintain a state of readiness. So, wake up and keep your eyes and hearts open. This could be the day!
