As a Little Child 11.20.20

As a Little Child 11.20.20

Jesus called a little child to him and put the child among them. Then he said, “I tell you the truth, unless you turn from your sins and become like little children, you will never get into the Kingdom of Heaven. So anyone who becomes as humble as this little child is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven. (Matthew 18:2–4).

What is it about a child that becomes a picture of one who has faith and trust in the Father? The ESV Study Bible writes, "The humility of a child consists of childlike trust, vulnerability, and the inability to advance his or her own cause apart from the help, direction, and resources of a parent." What a good explanation!

A child knows where their help comes from and when they get into a tough spot they immediately are looking for their parent. Unfortunately, as we get older we want desperately to be "on our own" and independent. We try and try and resist asking for help or direction. We are afraid of looking incompetent and see a need for help as a weakness. The child of God is continually fighting this urge and learns to run to the Lord for help. They are learning that asking for help is not weakness, it is wisdom.

A good way to start this day is to say, "Lord, I need You today. I need You to guide me, strengthen me, and use me to accomplish your purpose. Give me a nudge frequently throughout the day and remind me of the reality I just confessed."
