Running After Nothing 1.10.21

The Spirit alone gives eternal life. Human effort accomplishes nothing. (John 6:63).

It is hard to believe Jesus could be any more clear than this. Yet, we will continue to feel we need to keep working harder or we might not make it to Heaven. Read the words again . . . "human effort accomplishes nothing." R.C. Sproul used to say, "nothing is not a little something."

Salvation cannot be earned. It is embraced as a gift from God. Don't misunderstand. This is not a little thing! This is a life-changing moment. When we turn to Christ for forgiveness and new life it is not like getting "eternity insurance." This is a dynamic relationship with Jesus. Salvation begins the moment we believe. It impacts NOW and continues throughout eternity.

Do you know why most people don't enjoy abundant life? It is because they are so busy trying to be good or trying to produce joy and happiness that they have no time to walk with Jesus. Satan continues to whisper, "You just have to work a little harder." Jesus says, "Human effort accomplishes NOTHING. . . come all you who are weary and heavily burdened and I will give you rest."
