Refocusing Life 4.2.21

15 Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. 16 For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world. 17 And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever.

It seems like every commercial is appealing to our desires. A good advertiser will help you feel that you need what he is selling. There is plenty of messages to "be good to yourself" and do what "brings you pleasure." God's summons is different: "Come, follow me!"

As long as we are living for our pleasures we will remain lost and aimless. Have you ever ordered something online or make a sizable purchase in a store. This thing is something you truly desired and you figured if you were going to buy something . . .buy the best!

How many times has the item arrived and you wondered why you made the purchase? It won't be long before it will be out on the curb as "worthless junk". Impulsive purchases, overindulging with substances, reckless words, Illicit relationships are all part of this battle with the world. It is our job to keep cutting down the "weeds" so we can keep going forward on the road less traveled but also the only road that leads home.
