A Different Lens 4.28.31
“You know that the rulers in this world lord it over their people, and officials flaunt their authority over those under them. But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must become your slave. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (Matthew 20:25–28).
We live in a world that is all about power. You only have to look at our political system to see this. Unfortunately, it is also true in the church. We often are caught up in numbers and size (another way of saying "power.") We too often see people jockey for power. Some even jump churches to try to gain more power.
Jesus says we are using the wrong rubric to evaluate our lives. Our goal should be to glorify God and serve each other. This opens the door to the display of God's power to change lives and accomplish His purpose. We are not to compete with each other, we are to serve each other. Imagine what would happen if we obeyed this teaching!
Try looking at your life through the lens of God's eye. Is your life being lived for Him or is it for yourself? Are you building your "kingdom" or His?
