Only Jesus 10.8.21
“He must become greater and greater, and I must become less and less.” (John 3:30)
These were the words of John the Baptist, the cousin of Jesus. John understood his role. He was to point to Jesus. It reminds me of introducing a band or musical artist. Your job is not to get people to see you . . . it is to introduce the band and get out of the way.
This is also the picture of our life as followers of Christ. Our goal is not to exalt ourselves, it is to point to Jesus. What people need most is not us, it's Him. The praise of men is intoxicating. But the praise of men is shallow. The praise we must seek above all is the "Well Done of the Lord." To receive this we must point to Jesus and then get out of the way.
