Apologies to Sodom 6.23.22
“49 Sodom’s sins were pride, gluttony, and laziness, while the poor and needy suffered outside her door. 50 She was proud and committed detestable sins, so I wiped her out, as you have seen.”
It is easy to think of Sodom as punished because of their rampant homosexuality but that was only one example of their sin against the Lord. It is always easier to dwell on the sins that we don't commit.
Pride, gluttony, laziness, and indifference to people in need were also indictments against the people. One or more of those should convict us. In fact, this passage was making the point that the people of Israel at that time were WORSE sinners than those in Sodom. God destroyed Sodom . . . He could do the same to us in a moment.
Our hope is found in our repentance and trust in Christ. The Lord says if Sodom heard what we have heard and known, they would have repented. What about us?
