Hurting God's Reputation 9.20.22

Hurting God's Reputation 9.20.22

“7 Even to have such lawsuits with one another is a defeat for you. Why not just accept the injustice and leave it at that? Why not let yourselves be cheated? 8 Instead, you yourselves are the ones who do wrong and cheat even your fellow believers” (1 Corinthians 6:7-8)

We live in a litigious world (people like to sue each other over perceived offenses). When believers sue other believers God's reputation is tarnished. It is not just lawsuits, there are times we are upset and we take every opportunity to diminish others with our words. This two tarnishes the Lord's reputation.

Paul's remedy is radical. This shows how important it is to avoid diminishing the reputation of the Lord. His remedy? It is better to absorb a hurt or offense rather than give anyone a chance to reject the Master. It is better to accept the circumstances rather than speak about the other person in a slanderous angry way.

This is big-picture thinking. We need to see beyond ourselves and guard the reputation of our Lord. He must increase and we must decrease.
